What Happens When You’re One of the 46,000 to 230,000 Wrongfully Convicted of a Crime?

Of all individuals convicted of a crime in the U.S., according to the Chicago Tribune, between 2-10 percent of the convicts are innocent. Countless innocent individuals have spent years, decades, and even lifetimes serving their sentence, only to be later proven innocent. When these individuals are finally proven to be innocent, the financial compensation offered by the state or federal government is meager.
